forever. They didn’t think I could go anywhere. They were even surprised I had graduated high school. My parents had lost hope in me a long time ago.

I let out a shaky breath, my hands gripping the steering wheel.

Sometimes, I don’t even know why I was still staying here. I was graduated from high school and still seventeen years old - my birthday was in exactly five days. I was counting the days down by the minutes. I knew that on my eighteenth birthday, everything would change. I would get the hell out of here and go back to Minnesota. I would leave this hell hole and everyone in it, except Wendy.

I could finally get my life back to where I wanted it to be.

My phone began to ring Flo Rida’s “Whistle”. I picked it up almost immediately. “This is Kiara.”

“Kiara!” I heard my sister screech my name. “Why are you just sitting out in front of the house alone in your Subaru Impreza?”

“Because I can,” I snapped at her. “I’ll be inside in a minute.”

  “Just don’t drive off.”

  “Oh it’s tempting, believe me.”

“Get your ass in here, Kiara.”

“I said give me a minute, fucking a.”

I quickly hung up on Kelsey, my sister, before she could bitch at me for being a brat to her at her and her boyfriends ‘party’. My sister and I haven’t gotten along well, and basically to put it in simple terms, we were complete bitches to each other. My sister annoyed the shit out of me, and I annoyed the shit out of her. That’s just how it went.

I took in a deep breath before grabbing my phone, and keys and jumping out of my Subaru Impreza. I began to chew on my bottom lip again as I walked to the door. I didn’t have to knock or ring the doorbell. I walked right in, plastering a fake smile on my face.

“Kiara!” I heard my best friend shout my name.

“Hey, Wendy,” I smiled and pulled my best friend in for a hug.

“Something wrong?” I heard her whisper in my ear.

“Just the usual,” I whispered back, “Nothing too bad.”

What I loved best about Wendy was that she saw right through my bull shit. She saw right through it and knew what I was doing and why I was doing it. She knew when I was lying or when I was faking a smile. She saw right through me, and meeting someone like that is rare.

  “We’ll definitely talk later.”

I pulled away from Wendy and plaster a smile on my face to greet Kelsey’s boyfriend, James. James had dark brunette hair that was cropped short. His skin was a soft, glowing tan. He had a pair brown eyes. Overall, James was devilishly handsome and he was quite the boyfriend.

“Hey, James,” I smiled at him.

James was definitely nice to me, despite how much shit Kelsey says to him about me. She tells him that I’m a rebel and I have issues. Honest to God, my family just doesn’t understand me. I really like James for one reason: he doesn’t see all the bullshit my family says. James doesn’t see who I am, but he also doesn’t see me for what I’m not, which is amazing.

  “Hey, Kiara, how art thou?”

“I’m good, thanks,” I gave him a smile. “So what friends did you invite?”

James flashed me a smile, “My friend Damion, Chris, and Bentley.”

“Hm,” I thought. “Bentley... I haven’t seen him since high school. Where is he?”

“I’m afraid he left,” I heard the familiar voice.

“Oh?” James raised an eyebrow. “What for?”

“He said something about his sister needing him to watch his nephew,” The voice said again. I turned around and almost gasped.

There he was, I thought. There was The Dark Lord, standing there as if he owned the world. A smirk played at his lips as he ruffled his dark, curled hair that reached the nape of his neck. His burning blue eyes stared at me. I stared back at him with my green eyes.

  What was he doing here?

“Do you two know each other?” James asked, clearly confused.

“Oh yeah,” Damion smirked at me, “We go way back.”

Yeah to when I was fucking ten years old, bastard, I thought bitterly as I glared at ‘Damion’.

“Huh,” James cocked his head to the side, “I never knew that.”

James turned to face Kelsey, and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder. I looked away, jealousy burning in my eyes.

“You like James?” Damion teased me.

I glared at him. “No, I just want what they have. Now fuck off.”

“Ooh,” Damion wiggled his eyebrows. “You’ve gotten feisty over the years, haven’t you?”

“Damion, seriously, fuck off,” I sighed. “I don’t like you.”

“Oh, too bad,” He cooed, “You’re going to have to have to like me when I take you away from this place in five days.”

“Excuse me?” I raised my eyebrows. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“You know,” Damion poked my thigh, right where the middle of a rose was. I slapped away his hand. “The cost for that tattoo is that I get to take you anywhere I want on your eighteenth birthday as long as it wasn’t Florida. Didn’t you make that clear?”

“No!” I cried out, “I said I wanted to stay in Minnesota.”

“You didn’t say those exact words, Kiara,” Damion’s burning blue eyes caught my gaze, and for a moment, I held my breath. We were approximately three inches apart, and practically nose to nose. I could taste mint and cigarettes on him.

“Fuck you, you manipulative bastard,” I seethed the words at him. “I’ve never said that, and you know it.”

“Aw, baby,” Damion winked, “You’re being too kind.”

I growled at him and shoved his chest. “I don’t like you. Go away.”

Damion laughed at me, “You shouldn’t fight it, baby. You’re coming with me in five days whether you like it or not!”

I shoved him off me. “Stop calling me baby!”

I was too annoyed to even deal with Damion at the current moment, so I sat down on Chris’s lap. I turned to face him. “You’re not annoying are you?”

“Uh, no,” Chris chuckled, “At least I hope not.”

“Good,” I replied shortly. “Then you’re on my good list.”

I didn’t think I could hate someone in just a short period of time, I thought, but congratu-fucking-lations, Damion A.K.A The Dark Lord. You made that goal accomplished.
